It sims simple

Today was officially another rest day. We had one job to do: get our van internet back on line. And feed us… so two jobs. Three if you count walking Flynn (which he definitely counts as a job). We set about the tasks in reverse order: Flynn got his walk around the old town – actually between the old town and the Atlantic.

Then back through town to visit the Maroc Telecom shop but… it was closed for new year’s day. We deposited Flynn in Jones and nipped out to the restaurant just across from the camp site. The swordfish tagine and chicken cous-cous was perfectly good but, it was a little expensive so probably we were ripped off. Not massively though.

After lunch, I set off for the old-new part of town about 20 minutes walk away to find another telecoms shop which Google and Apple informed me would be open. Jane and Flynn stayed behind to battle about cleaning (Jane) and dirtying (Flynn) the van. Jane won in the end but I think Flynn has retired to consider his strategy and has definitely not surrendered. Meanwhile, I got to the Inwi shop to find it was closed until 15:30 – only half an hour away. I settled in to wait at a cafe.

The opening time came round and the shop was still firmly closed –  Google and the sign on the Inwi door were inaccurate. The radish monger next door to the Inwi shop reassured me it would be open at 16:30. I couldn’t take any more Moroccan coffee so I set off back to Jones. I tried another five shops for a SIM but came back empty handed. Well, nearly; I did score 20DH worth of top up vouchers for a Marco Telecom SIM we’d bought from the camp site. 20DH almost gets you enough data to download the Google home page. Still, it was hard won and I was proud of it.

After all the excitement of that 20DH worth of data we needed something to calm us down. What better than a mystery seafood tagine, a Moroccan spin on a paella and some fried anchovies? “Nothing!” I hear you say and luckily, restaurant Zahora was on hand to serve us exactly that and some excellent red wine. The red wine was notable as the vintage from the year we were previously here and, back then, we’d made notes that “Medaillon is  delicious… must try and find the vineyard”.

So now we have a quest set by past Roger and Jane. Normally past Roger and Jane don’t seem to care much about our well being and generally leave us to sort things out for them. It’s nice to see past Roger and Jane becoming a little more thoughtful and caring.
